I've been using Mendota slip leads at our local rescue shelter for nearly four years, and have ordered scores to bring to the shelter during this time. The upside: Those that I still ordered are fully functional, none has ever been chewed threw by even the largest most difficult dogs, they are comfortable in the hand, and hold up by far better than any other brands I've used. The downside: It's an active shelter, and a few thousand pups pass through for adoptions and fostering. The quality of the leashes means that many disappear for dog fosterers or adopters, which is good, but it requires constant replacement.
I used to order from Amazon, so leashes came from second party vendors. I've started ordering directly from Mendota, because they're faster, their customer service is extremely user-friendly when a phone call was needed, and that combination is invaluable when leashes are needed quickly.
In sort, Mendota ROCKS!!!
I've been working with larger, more "difficult" dogs at a local animal shelter for three years, and tried many brands of 6 ft/half-inch slip leads in the first few months. Mendota's were by far the best. Unlike with other leashes, no dog has ever chewed through a Mendota slip lead, even though they feel softer than other types of leashes. They're comfortable and pliable when gripping around the fist, soft and comfortable for the dog, and they're far more durable and last much longer than the many other brands I've tried, or that are brought in by others. They also have a gentle "give" so that if a large dog suddenly pulls or jerks with considerable force, there's just enough flexibility to reduce the "jerk," thus reducing the force of injury. I've brought in at least 70 in 2020 (they're used by others at the shelter, and they disappear to be used elsewhere. At the moment, about 90 pct of the leashes there are Mendota. I also find Mendota's customer service extremely user-friendly. One example: They accidentally messed up an order earlier this year, and it was generously and immediately rectified/expedited. It's hard to use any other after becoming used to Mendota's.
