  1. Go On A Hike 🥾

Going on a hike is a great way to bond with your dog by exploring the bountiful beauty of nature. The symphony of natural colors along with the sound of leaves underfoot provide a different experience than summer.
Find a local trail that allows dogs and head out for a day of adventure and remember to stay hydrated and wear suitable clothing yourself. No matter where you live, be sure your pets are wearing paw protection and have plenty of water to drink.

  1. Fall Picnic 🧺 🍂

Relish the moment of a picnic amidst crimson and gold scenery.  The trail had to lead somewhere, if not at least for a break with your furry companion, and hopefully you remembered their treats.  This article from The Bark has some great recipes! Your dog will love getting to spend time with you outside and will be happy to share your food. Remember the serenity of the season doesn’t mean you have to go far; a local dog-friendly park with a view will do just fine.  Be sure to tag your pets decked out in Mendota’s fall colors on our Instagram @mendotapet

  1. Autumn Festivals 🎃

Many local communities turn out for their respective versions of Harvest Festivals.  Celebrating the bounty of the season is a terrific way to engage with people and pets.  Apple picking, pumpkin patches, dog walks, and hayrides are all great ways to join the fun! Be sure to investigate first that each event is dog-friendly. This is a great way to socialize your dog and meet other dog owners. Remember that these events almost always require dogs to be on leash. Our 6-foot snap lead is ideal for dogs in collar or harness.

  1. Visit Dog-Friendly Beaches 🏖️ 🐾

Fall season can bring lower than normal low tides. If you live near the coast, take your dog to a dog-friendly beach. With many beaches having designated areas where dogs can run and play in the water, please be sure to follow any beach rules and keep your dog on a leash when necessary. For extra distance, our 15-foot Snap Leash is ideal for controlled frolics in the sea!

Playing fetch is a classic activity that never gets old. Find a wide-open space like a park or beach and bring your dog's favorite ball or a pet-safe Frisbee. Fetching can be a great break to get some exercise and bond with your dog.
If you don't live near the coast, consider taking your dog to a nearby lake or river. Many lakes have designated areas for dogs to swim and play in the water. Just make sure to follow any lake rules and keep your dog safe by keeping them on a leash when posted. Keep an eye out for signs of dangerous algae blooms which may still be present and avoid if possible.  When ready for washing up always consider Mendota Pet’s DERMagic Skincare line of scented shampoo bars (liquid shampoo/conditioner also available in bottle).

  1. Play In The Leaves 🍁 🍃 🍂

Regular yard chores such as raking the inevitable fallen leaves can provide a chance for fetch games.  Check for sharp sticks or hazardous debris first, then toss toys into leaf piles or play fetch in them. Exercise too, their curiosity utilizing their acute sense of smell. Hide treats or objects and reward them by using their natural abilities to the fullest.  Develop your own game! When outdoor playtime is interrupted by lousy weather keep them occupied safely indoors with Oo Ma Loo Toys.

Regardless of your location, there are plenty of enjoyable activities awaiting you and your canine companion. From hiking and picnics to dog-friendly beaches and events, the opportunities for shared adventures are boundless. Always prioritize your dog’s safety and hydration and relish the fall colors and moments together and go outdoors!
